Psychotherapy is primarily a talk-based therapy that is intended to help people improve and maintain their mental health and well-being.
The controlled act of psychotherapy occurs when the Registered Psychotherapist (RP) and client enter into a psychotherapeutic relationship, where both work together to bring about positive change in the client’s thinking, feeling, behaviour and social functioning.
Individuals usually seek psychotherapy when they have thoughts, feelings, moods and behaviors that are adversely affecting their day-to-day lives, relationships and the ability to enjoy life.
The controlled act of psychotherapy is regulated and overseen by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. Counsellors and therapists in Ontario must be registered with CRPO to not only identify themselves as a psychotherapist, but to be authorized to offer the regulated and controlled act of psychotherapy as well. Psychotherapy Act, 2007

In terms of sliding scale:
Yes, I do offer sliding scale assessments to assist clients in accessing psychotherapy. Please inform me that you are seeking a sliding scale adjustment, and complete the application prior to session.
Insurance coverage and acceptance:
Some insurance plans may cover a part of the psychotherapy services, when such services are supervised by a registered professional. It is your responsibility to obtain approval from your insurance company for the eligibility of these services for reimbursement.
OHIP does not cover psychotherapy services. However, most insurance plans may cover psychotherapy from a Registered Psychotherapist. You will need to check with your insurance provider to find out if they will cover your services.
